Café y Pan Dulce
Café y Pan Dulce (coffee and sweetbread) is a networking breakfast. Held monthly on the last Wednesday of the month it is designed to provide an opportunity for small business owners to network while hopefully taking away a new bit of knowledge from our presenter. An average of twenty people are attending. This program will undergo changes by hosting the networking breakfast in a business rather than at the chamber office.
Business Women's Roundtable celebrating its 4th year continues to attract women from different business backgrounds with an average monthly attendance of 30. The Roundtable has been a huge success by providing a vehicle to bring businesswomen and women in business together to encourage and support each other.
The Chamber Leaders Club is composed of professional business men and women who provide personal service and quality products to their community. By developing trusting relationships among members, we also develop a network of qualified business referrals that are proven and dependable. The main purpose of the Chamber Leaders Club is generating leads, or referrals to members. This means that when your neighbor is talking about needing a product or service, you can refer him or her to a member of our networking group. Let your mouth do the talking, and their fingers don’t have to do the walking! We can all agree that it’s always better to have a referral to someone you’ve done business with in the past, someone you can trust to do a good job for your neighbor! This is known as word of mouth marketing, and it’s very inexpensive!
The Chamber currently co-sponsors the monthly networking breakfast with the Midland Chamber, Midland College BEDC, UTPB Small Business Development Center, and Better Business Bureau. This year's presentation "Marketing to the Hispanic Consumer" drew record attendance of over 60 attendees.
MHCC has one of a few non-profit in-house incubator programs in Texas and the only one in the West Texas area. The MHCC Incubation Program provides early stage businesses or home based businesses a support net where they can nurture and grow their businesses. The Incubator program provides business owners with their own independent office space where they can meet with clients and do business. Please stop by our office for a tour and more information.
Counseling and Loans
The chamber actively supports individuals wanting to fulfill their dreams of becoming entrepreneurs through our business counseling. The chamber office and staff provides a less intimidating and approachable atmosphere...
This event was created not only to connect our membership to the Hispanic community but we also wanted to thank the community for their support of Mex-Tex and to make information on education and social services available to them. We were pleased to partner with the Midland College Cogdell's Fall Festival and create a great community event.
Step Up To Success
The MHCC recognizes that in order to have a thriving and successful community it all begins with education. For over twenty years the MHCC has hosted the Step Up To Success Youth Leadership Conference to inspire students to look to the future and build a vision for themselves and to emphasize that education is the key to a successful future. The conference is targeted at ninth grade students, which is facilitated by local community leaders and volunteers. Topics discussed include: Believing in Yourself - Self-Esteem - we have to believe in ourselves even if no one else does; The Power of Choice - the choices we make will take us closer or further from our goals; The Power of People - People have the power to bring us down or help us achieve great things; Who's Driving? - Who is in control of your life and Step Up To Success - Stepping Up requires action from ME, no one can step up for me.
Each year the chamber works to raise money to award scholarships to worthy recipients. We are blessed to have the Legacy scholarships available in Midland and strongly encourage students to complete the requirements. However, we recognize that some students help supplement family income and it is a challenge to complete the volunteer hours. We also have some adults returning to college that need assistance. The chamber strongly believes that a strong workforce begins with education. Scholarship applications for the Fall '09 semester are now available. Applications may be picked up at the counselors office's of Midland High School, Midland Lee High School and Midland College. You may also stop by our office to pick up an application or download here
Information coming soon on our next Scholarship for 2014!
Partner in Education - MHCC supports MISD's Partner in Education program. We encourage our members to mentor students at our partner school, Crockett Elementary. The chamber also donated money to Midland College's BEDC in support of people in the community wanting to benefit from the Business Survival Skills classes provided by BEDC.
